Old Fashioned Oatmeal

_DSC0573I made this oatmeal for breakfast the other day. We ate it while curled up on the sofa watching some footy. And yes, I said footy. It comes easy to say that now instead of soccer. Anyways, it was all quite a good combo. I’d say this old fashioned oatmeal is a staple recipe. It’s delicious and extremely easy to make, fills you up for the day and warms your tummy. It has sliced apples, walnuts and prunes in it. And yes, I said prunes, as in the old people food. No shame here, I quite like them (especially frozen)! To make this old fashioned oatmeal complete, I like to add cinnamon and brown sugar, of course. I think those two ingredients are the best oatmeal toppings of all.

What do you guys like to put in your oatmeal?

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oatmeal
  • 1 cup water
  • A splash of milk
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 apple
  • 7 prunes
  • A handful of walnuts
  1. In a saucepan bring the water to a boil and add in the oatmeal. Let it cook until all the water is absorbed. Add in a splash of milk for a creamier texture.
  2. Chop up the apple and prunes into small pieces and add them into the saucepan. Throw in the walnuts and stir well.
  3. Mix in the cinnamon and brown sugar as desired. Enjoy.
