I made this oatmeal for breakfast the other day. We ate it while curled up on the sofa watching some footy. And yes, I said footy. It comes easy to say that now instead of soccer. Anyways, it was all quite a good combo. I’d say this old fashioned oatmeal is a staple recipe. It’s delicious and extremely easy to make, fills you up for the day and warms your tummy. It has sliced apples, walnuts and prunes in it. And yes, I said prunes, as in the old people food. No shame here, I quite like them (especially frozen)! To make this old fashioned oatmeal complete, I like to add cinnamon and brown sugar, of course. I think those two ingredients are the best oatmeal toppings of all.
What do you guys like to put in your oatmeal?
- 1/2 cup old fashioned oatmeal
- 1 cup water
- A splash of milk
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 apple
- 7 prunes
- A handful of walnuts
- In a saucepan bring the water to a boil and add in the oatmeal. Let it cook until all the water is absorbed. Add in a splash of milk for a creamier texture.
- Chop up the apple and prunes into small pieces and add them into the saucepan. Throw in the walnuts and stir well.
- Mix in the cinnamon and brown sugar as desired. Enjoy.
