I’m in love with the sweet + salty combination. Some of my favorites are chocolate covered pretzels (a classic), fig and goat cheese pizza, dried cherries with salted cashews or almonds, sausages dipped in maple syrup… mmm, the list goes on and on and, it gets pretty creative too. These banana chips make that beautiful, delicious sweet + salty list of mine. They are perfectly coated lightly in brown sugar and sprinkled with sea salt and pepper. Honestly, after I first tasted them, they didn’t taste anything like the banana chips from those overly sweetened trail mix packages, but rather, they tasted like the plantain chips I had last spring in the Dominican Republic. And to me, that was a very good thing.
- 3 large under ripe bananas
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- coarse grain sea salt and black pepper
- sugar
- Slice your bananas into thin pieces.
- Coat them in brown sugar on both sides.
- Lay the banana slices on the baking sheet prepped with olive oil.
- Sprinkle coarse grain sea salt and black pepper on top.
- Bake at 400 degrees F for 15-20 minutes. Each over is different so be sure to keep watch!
- Let them cool and toss a dash of sugar on top. Enjoy.
