Italian Agriturismo: Il Castagno

Il Castagno day time

The second agriturismo we stayed at while in Tuscany was Il Castagno. (By the way, you can see our first agriturismo stay, here). Il Castagno was one of most relaxing parts of our trip. It’s perfectly situated down winding roads just 15 minutes outside of Siena. It’s entirely surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. It’s honestly one of the most serene places I’ve ever stayed at. What I loved most about Il Castagno was how quiet and peaceful it was. The agriturismo only has about 10 rooms so it feels so intimate and homey.

When you drive up to Il Castagno, it looks just like this. It’s been almost two months since we’ve been there and I still can’t get over how tranquil and beautiful this place is!

Il Castagno Tiepolo Room Door

All the doors and window frames at Il Castagno are painted this pretty olive green color. I love it! This is actually the door to the room where we stayed. Our room was called Tiepolo. In fact, all the rooms at Il Castagno are named after famous Italian painters.

Our room was so spacious and the views outside our window were so amazing. Ana, the receptionist of the agriturismo and her staff were so welcoming and hospitable. They even decorated our room with fresh flowers from their garden and, in the late afternoon they’d bring us little snacks by the pool.

Because we all know I’m a huge fan of breakfast, I had to share some breakie photos. Breakfast at Il Castagno included a wide variety of pastries, fresh fruits, local meats and cheeses, yogurts and cappuccinos, and the best grapefruit juice I’ve ever had.

The agriturismo has a resident cat named Gattone. He’s so friendly he came straight up to me and wanted to play with the tassels on my sandals. He even made his way into our photo. I wish I could’ve taken him home with me!

Il Castagno at night

It was so special staying at Il Castagno because we could spend the entire day there and not have to leave the grounds. There’s a restaurant on site and it was so convenient walking only a few yards outside our room to enjoy dinner outside. The food was delicious! One night, Dave got these tender pork chops and I had tagliatelli bolognese. And for dessert, panna cotta and tiramisu.

Thank you Il Castagno for a wonderful stay!
