Life Lately (Christmas and New Years)

life lately

As you can tell, I haven’t posted on this little blog for a while. And, there’s no better way to get back into it than with a Life Lately post to catch us up, right? Dave and I went back to Connecticut for the holidays. It was so nice being home and spending time with my family, we didn’t do anything less than indulge. We flew in early on Christmas eve and spent the entire afternoon napping, eating bagels and lox and watching movies. Our family came around on Christmas day and it was so warm out, we decided to go down to our local park to play some football, soccer and volleyball. It was such a great way to gear up for our Christmas feast.

Christmas Christmas Dinner Spread

Unlike most families, my family doesn’t eat the same thing for Christmas dinner each year. We switch it up between steak, fish, ham, chicken… This year we had Korean BBQ and Chinese. It surely was a delicious Asian fusion spread!

Christmas in Rockefeller Center

The day after Christmas we went into the city. Every year, I don’t care how crowded it is and how many selfie sticks I have to walk past, we have to go see the Rockefeller tree! It’s that magical New York Christmas thing, you know? My brother also got us tickets to go see an interactive show called Sleep No More. It was probably the coolest, most memorable show I’ve ever been to and it was completely unlike anything I’ve ever done before. Everyone in the audience is required to wear masks, not talk, and are encouraged to wander around the five floor set design to follow the actors around the building. The production tells Shakespeare’s story, Macbeth, but to be honest, it’s very difficult to follow the plot because all the acts are happening simultaneously. The acting, dancing and set designs are so incredible, it’s totally worth checking out! Also, if you’re a lady planning on going, do not wear heels. You’re running up and down stairs in the dark and going through all sorts of scenes that aren’t heel friendly. ;) After the show, we all went to the restaurant next door, The Heath for some live music and fish and chips and later, the roof top bar, The Lodge at Gallow Green. I highly recommend checking out both places!

Walking around NYC

I’ve always loved New York City at night, but I especially loved New York City at night when it was 60 degrees in December.

Post Christmas Hike

We spent more time in Connecticut, really not doing too much but relaxing. We went on a few hikes, played tons of games, and broke out the acrylic paints for some late night wine and painting.

PaintingNew Years Eve Drinks

This year, we decided to have a low key New Years Eve. It was just what we were in the mood for. We went out for a casual dinner at Bar Taco (best tacos ever!) and filled our tummies with guacamole and salted margaritas. After dinner, it just so happened that there was a bonfire and fireworks out on the Long Island Sound where we were. We hung out there for a bit and then went back home to ring in the New Year and watch the ball drop with my grandma.

Brooklyn Bridge View

Last year, we spent New Years day in the city walking across the Brooklyn Bridge and around Brooklyn Heights. This year, we did the exact same thing, plus dim sum in Chinatown. We met up with my cousin and her boyfriend and spent the entire day walking around the city, eating our way from Chinatown to Little Italy. If you’re looking for non-greasy, extremely tasty dim sum in Chinatown, you’ve got to go to Dim Sum Go Go’s.

I’m obsessed with Brooklyn brownstones because, look at them!

Anyways, I know it’s a little late but I hope you guys had a wonderful start to the New Year! Did anyone make any resolutions? Dave and I didn’t make any traditional resolutions but instead, gave ourselves a few tangible goals for this year. One of them being, training our new family member, Samson.
