We celebrated our 6th anniversary in November. Our anniversary is over the long Thanksgiving weekend, so we spoiled ourselves with a trip to Breckenridge. Before our anniversary festivities began though, we had Thanksgiving at home with two of our good friends and their German Shepherd, Shankly.
We were originally going to travel for Thanksgiving, but it felt safest to stay at home. We were bummed we didn’t get to spend Thanksgiving with our family but we made our own version quite special, too.
We spent Thanksgiving morning outside and took Samson for a walk. We catered our Thanksgiving dinner and used the time at home to set up our Christmas decorations. Dave baked a few delicious sweet treats as well! He’s been baking a lot of yummy things this winter and I have to say, he’s pretty darn good at it.
The next day we packed up the car and headed west towards Breckenridge. We went straight to the trailhead and decided to walk along Boreas Pass for an easy yet scenic hike. Samson was totally in his element and was very pleased about the snow situation. We brought a picnic lunch of Thanksgiving turkey sandwiches and spent the day out on the trail.
Hikes and walks with these two are definitely my favorite thing to do. I think it’s rejuvenating for us all really. After our hike, we went to go check in our hotel, shower up and relax. Samson was exhausted after his run around in the snow so he was down to chill too.
The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing and savoring the time together. We walked around town and window shopped. Lululemon was having their Black Friday sale so I might have splurged a bit there. We watched Twilight on cable TV, ordered take out burgers and fries to our room in the evening, cheesecake and tea for dessert, and breakfast burritos in the morning.
Honestly, it was really relaxing being in a ski town without going skiing. We don’t have Breckenridge on our ski pass, so weren’t tempted to be out there on the mountain. I kind of loved that the town quieted our during the day when most people were out on the slopes.
^^ The hotel we stayed at had the coolest vintage ski decor and served coffee in mason jars that we got to take home. Have to say, I loved it!
We also slept in and watched the Premier League, reserved the hot tub, and hiked some local trails and looked at all the beautiful mountain houses – dreaming that someday we might have one too!
Feeling extra grateful for 6 years of marriage with my guy. And especially thankful that this one loves to indulge on weekend trips as much as I do!
