Finally I get around to sharing our wedding photos! Yay! I honestly don’t even know where to begin because it’s pretty hard to sum up my best day ever. I know I mentioned our courthouse wedding was the best day ever, but really this one topped that one in a different way. Our weddings just keep getting better and better and man, I am not complaining. We can’t wait to do one more final wedding celebration, with a reception hosting a larger group of family and friends. Besides, I think love should be celebrated many times over, right? Anyways because there’s so much to share on this wedding, I’ll probably do three posts, starting from the very beginning. And warning, this post might be the longest post to ever exist in the history of Everygoodthing, but it was our wedding and I want to make sure I blog as much of it as I can.
After having our courthouse wedding in Michigan, Dave and I knew we wanted to have a more traditional wedding on the East Coast with our family and friends. I’ve always dreamed of having a big elaborate wedding; with bridesmaids and twinkle lights and various cakes with frosting, but because we ended up having a last minute wedding, there was no time for all of that. We went with the very basics and had only our most immediate family there. The wedding was practically a DIY one and was planned within a matter of days. It didn’t look like the one I originally had in mind, but I’m so grateful for that. It was a million times better.
The night before our wedding we were gathered in my family kitchen. My new mum was making my veil while my mom was putting together my bouquet. Our kitchen looked a little like a flower shop, which nobody seemed to mind because it smelled so good! We actually ran out of vases so we resorted to travel coffee mugs! Hehe. Ps. Thank goodness for moms. They really do know how to do/make everything. I’m so thankful for my two.
On the morning of our big day I got ready with the ladies at my grandparents house. I hadn’t been back there since my grandfather passed away in June. While I was putting on my make up, I thought of all the fun memories I’ve had in that house and how this new milestone would just be added to the collection of memories that have taken place there. I thought of how much I missed my Gung Gung and how I wished he was there to see our wedding unfold. I can tell you though, I felt some comfort and peace. I knew he was there and that he was so proud. I knew he was cheering us on.
What was also special about getting ready in my grandparents house was that my mom did just the same thing 26 years earlier. She made a lovely bride, don’t you think? Hehe check out those puffy sleeves!
While the ladies were finishing getting ready, the men took a trip into town for Dunkin Donuts coffee and glazed donuts. The men always have it easy, huh? I love this cheeky photo below of them toasting to our marriage.
Then it was off to the church to meet my mister. Which is really only a three minute drive, but when you’re filled with butterflies and excitement and nervousness and emotion, and wondering to yourself whether you put on waterproof mascara or not, a three minute drive can feel a lot longer.
We then parked up at the front of the church where I was going to meet the rest of my family to show them my dress. And queue tears, because this is when they first started rolling. I always knew I’d cry on my wedding day, but I never thought it would’ve been THAT much. Well friends, it was. I was full on waterworks during the ceremony.
The first look/wedding dress reveal was one of my most memorable parts. Originally, we wanted our first look to be when I was walking down the aisle. However, we were a little tight on time and decided the extra time for photos was well worth it (especially before all the tears, well kinda). Our families lined up on the steps outside the front of the church and called out to Dave to come out. He stepped through the little green double doors and made his way outside to the front of the church where we were all standing. This moment, I know I won’t forget, he had big grin and he looked so handsome. He walked towards me and even though his face said it all, he said, “Wow, you look so beautiful!” He gave me one of those sweet kisses. It sounds corny, but that’s the way it went! I’ve got to admit though it was a little tricky to kiss because A. It was so cold and I was shivering and B. I couldn’t stop smiling.
And one more kissing one, because who doesn’t like to kiss on their wedding day?
